Abstract: This article summarizes the structure and hereditary characteristics of X chromosome, research progress of using multiplex PCR system to amplify X-chromosome specific short tandom repeat (X-STR)loci and its forensic applications. It also presents the advantages and disadvantages of X-STR loci in the practice of forensic medicine, with an aim to promote wider use of X-STR loci in forensic science .
