Abstract: SUMO (Small ubiquitin-related modifier) modification, one of the essential posttranslational modifications in eukaryotes, plays an important role in various cellular processes. This review summarized the recent progresses on SUMO substrates in Arabidopsis. We firstly described the pathway of SUMO conjugation, and then focused on screening for SUMO substrates, including the methods of identification and SUMO substrates identified. Finally, we classified these substrates on the basis of their subcellular localization, functions, and biological processes. It is expected to provide the basis for better un-derstanding the roles of sumoylation of proteins in plants.
